Get Wrapped Up In Reading!

Readers of all ages are invited to “Get Wrapped Up in Reading” from January 7 through February 28, 2017 with AAPLD’s Winter Reading Program. Visit either location Saturday, January 7 to register, then visit our Hot Cocoa Bar between 11am and 1pm.

Adults can win a Kindle Fire just for reading! Registerpic_penguinsweater at the Adult Services Desk, then read up to five books for entries in our prize drawing. Runner up prizes include gift cards from local favorites. Write a book review and be entered to win movie tickets.

High School Students can choose their own paperback book just for registering in the Winter Reading Program. For every book read before February 28, get an entry for the grand prize drawing. Write a book review and be entered in a bonus drawing for movie tickets.

Babies through 8th grade students will earn a pic_penguin-giftpaperback book and a drawing entry once a book log is completed. Keep reading and earn more entries for drawing prizes such as gift cards, small toys, specialty books, LEGO items, and stuff animals.

Watch as our scarf grows with book log completion stripes and our quilt is constructed with book reviews. There’s something for everyone! We’re looking forward to “Get Wrapped Up in Reading” with you.

Get Your ACT Practice @ the Library

Saturday, January 30 at Harnish / Saturday, February 6 @ Eastgate. Student in grades 10-12 can practice taking the ACT with a Sylvan Learning testing proctor. Your $15 registration fee includes the test, study guide, and detailed score report. Doors open at 9am and testing begins promptly at 9:30am. Please bring a pencil and a calculator (click here for calculator rules).

Practice can go a long way toward a better score on the ACT. Take advantage of this low-cost opportunity. Please note: This is a practice test; we are not an official testing location.

Without a Mask: Hockey’s Daredevil Goalies

Tuesday, January 26, 7-8:30 pm: Wooden sticks, shabby equipment and goalies who didn't wear facemasks made up the the rough-and-tumble days of early hockey. And you thought Corey Crawford was tough! Don't miss this action-packed presentation filled with glory, guts and gore! Presenter Craig Pierce will entertain you with lively anecdotes and wow you with his artistic "Wall of Fame" panels saluting the 1961 Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks.

Finals Study Nights Return

High school students, it’s almost time to cram for exams! Kick off your study extravaganza with Finals Study After Hours on Friday, May 20, when we’ll have FREE pizza and a visit from Annie the therapy dog from 7 to 8:30pm. Attendees must be between grades 9-12, and you need to register so we have enough pizza for everyone.

The following week, our meeting room and study rooms will be reserved for high school student study groups to use Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24 from 3 to 8pm. Stop by for an hour or more. We’ll have snacks and soda available in the meeting room, as well as relaxation supplies like bubble wrap to pop and coloring sheets. To reserve study rooms for up to 2-hour blocks of time, call 847-458-6060 ext 143 and let them know you’re a high school study group.
