Excellent patron experience is a top priority at the Algonquin Area Public Library and persons in this position help to deliver that experience. Responsibilities for this position include: shelving materials, searching for items in the collection, tidying and straightening, and performing a multitude of other tasks to support the running of both library locations.

Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully demonstrate skill in placing library materials in alphabetical and numerical order
  • Physically able to move carts of materials; stoop, reach, sort, carry, and shelve library materials; and set up tables, chairs, and other items in the Library Meeting Rooms
  • Ability to travel between library sites
  • Successful clearance of a background check

Library Associate (Makerspace)

Job Title: Library Associate (Makerspace)
FT/PT: Part-time, hourly, non- exempt
Hours: 25 hours/week
Wages: Starts at $17.75/hour - depending on qualifications and experience

Do you enjoy using new technologies and helping others to bring their visions into reality? Using graphic and 3D design software to create 3D printed objects, laser cut pieces, and wood carved art? Do you enjoy getting together with others to collaborate and build your collective knowledge and skills? The Algonquin Area Public Library District seeks a friendly, engaging, and tech savvy crafter to join our growing team of maker and technology oriented staff.

The ideal candidate will possess a desire to serve and interact with the staff and community; understand the changing roles of libraries in their communities; demonstrate good judgment when managing difficult situations; and work with other staff members to promote the Library.

Responsibilities of this position include: maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning, creating, and exploring; teaching classes on a variety of technology and maker topics; assisting patrons with Makerspace equipment and software including 3D printers, X-Carve, Laser Cutter, Silhouette, Cricut, and embroidery and sewing machines; maintaining equipment and tracking supplies as assigned; preparing promotional material for the library’s newsletter, website, and social media as assigned.

Requirements:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in teaching or applied technology, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education;

Popular Materials Librarian (Full-time)

Job Title: Popular Materials Librarian
FT/PT: Full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Wages: Salary starts at $23.50-$26.25/hour ($45,825-$51,188 year) depending on qualifications and experience

We are looking for a friendly, creative, and tech-savvy librarian with a passion for popular culture and merchandising to work collaboratively with a team of selectors in developing a popular collection of books, movies, and music in a variety of formats. With the goal of fostering a love of reading and promoting enrichment, exploration and discussion, the Popular Materials Librarian will work to ensure our collections are relevant, timely, and responsive to community needs and interests. The Popular Materials Librarian also serves on a team of librarians, specialists and library associates providing adults and young adults with reference, readers advisory, and computer assistance, as well as help in using digital collections and devices.

Special areas of responsibility include assessing and anticipating community needs to develop physical and digital fiction and audiovisual materials collections to promote the use of the Library; collaborating with other library and community partners to create and deliver reading focused programs and discussion groups for adults and teens; coordinating promotional materials, displays, and media to feature adult fiction and audio visual materials.

Scheduling includes daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Must be flexible for scheduling to present programs, support events and serve at public service points in the library and in the community.

Responsibilities for this position include: welcoming patrons to the library, issuing library cards, checking in and checking out materials, resolving patron account issues, emptying library materials from bins, and other materials handling.

  • Physical agility and strength to unload and load materials from bins and carts
