Job Title: Adult Programming Specialist
FT/PT: Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Wages: Salary starts at $22.00/hour ($42,900/year)

We are seeking an innovative and engaging programming specialist to collaborate interdepartmentally with staff and community partners to bring quality programs and events to adults of all ages. We strive to create experiences that foster lifelong learning, creative exploration, and social connection.

The Adult Programming Specialist will fill a new position that serves on a team of librarians and library associates to provide adults and young adults with reference, readers advisory, and computer assistance, as well as help in using digital collections and devices.

Special areas of responsibility include identifying and reviewing potential programs for adults, coordinating and contracting with outside speakers and performers, introducing and attending all events, and evaluating their success. The Programming Specialist collaborates with staff from Adult Services, Youth Services, Makerspace, Branch and Marketing to plan and coordinate cohesive program offerings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and formal education
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with community partners, patrons, and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven skill with public speaking, networking, engaging with the public, and making phone calls.
  • Experience planning and organizing successful events and programs for an adult audience.
  • Proficient in hosting Zoom meetings/webinars and using event management software. Experience with Communico a plus.

Hours & Scheduling
Includes daytime, evening and weekend hours. Must be flexible for scheduling to present programs, support events and serve at public service points in the library and in the community. This position does require a commitment to working evenings and weekends as needed to best serve the needs of the community.

Maintenance Assistant (Part-time)

Job Title: Facility Assistant
FT/PT: Part-time, hourly, non- exempt
Hours: 25 hours/week
Wages: Starts at $15.50/hour

Do you enjoy cleaning and keeping things clean and tidy, putting order to storage spaces, moving furniture and packages, weeding and picking up trash, working indoors and outdoors, and generally helping people? Are you able or willing to learn to make minor repairs and perform routine maintenance? Can you work evenings and weekends?

The Algonquin Area Public Library seeks two people to fill the second shift positions on our Building and Grounds Maintenance Team. The ideal candidates will be team oriented but able to work independently; demonstrate initiative, problem solving skills, and good judgment when managing unusual situations; and take pride in keeping the Library Buildings and Grounds looking their best and operating efficiently.

Responsibilities of this position include: custodial duties to maintain clean, tidy, and inviting environment including regularly wiping down high touch surfaces, cleaning staff and public bathrooms, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, and dusting; timely and accurate meeting room set ups; occasional assistance with tasks such as patching and painting, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, security system, and other building systems and equipment; email and other electronic communications; delivery of materials, equipment, furniture between library facilities, support for public events such as moving and setting up tables, tents, and other materials, and occasional other tasks as assigned.

Branch Library Associate (Part-Time)

Job Title: Library Associate
FT/PT: Part-time, non-exempt
Hours: 20 hours/week, includes days, evenings and weekends. (Library hours are currently reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This position is primarily scheduled evening closing shifts until 8pm and rotating weekends during normal Branch operating hours.)
Wages: Starts at $17.75/hour depending on qualifications and experience

Responsibilities for this position include greeting patrons and maintaining a friendly, welcoming environment, registering patrons for library cards and assisting with patron records, checking materials in and out, providing basic reference and readers’ advisory assistance, helping patrons with various forms of technology, promoting library services, managing meeting and study room reservations, shelving materials and maintaining shelf order in assigned areas, and serving in a rotation as a Person in Charge.

  • Bachelor’s degree or LTA
