Excellent patron experience is a top priority at the Algonquin Area Public Library and persons in this position help to deliver that experience. Responsibilities for this position include: shelving materials, searching for items in the collection, tidying and straightening, and performing a multitude of other tasks to support the running of both library locations.

Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully demonstrate skill in placing library materials in alphabetical and numerical order
  • Physically able to move carts of materials; stoop, reach, sort, carry, and shelve library materials; and set up tables, chairs, and other items in the Library Meeting Rooms
  • Ability to travel between library sites
  • Successful clearance of a background check

Makerspace Coordinator

Job Title: Makerspace Coordinator
FT/PT: Full-time, non-exempt
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Wages: Salary starts at $23.00-28.80/hour ($44,850.00-$56,160/year), depending on qualifications and experience

The Algonquin Area Public Library District seeks a creative, tech savvy, energetic, and dependable, person to oversee our Makerspace. The person in this position coordinates with a cadre of highly skilled and eager colleagues to develop and deliver a comprehensive and balanced set of maker-oriented crafting and technology based experiences for patrons and staff.

The ideal candidate will possess a desire to serve and interact with the staff and community; be skilled in managing people; understand the changing roles of libraries in their communities; set priorities, exercise initiative, and make independent decisions; manage time, responsibilities, and pressure effectively; demonstrate good judgment when managing routine and difficult situations; and possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills to promote the Makerspace, maker-oriented activities, and the Library.

Responsibilities of this position include: hiring, managing, and developing the Technology/Maker Library Associates; preparing and managing the Makerspace budget; coordinating the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies for maker-oriented experiences; providing direct service to library users and staff; setting goals and objectives for maker-oriented activities under the Library’s strategic plan; developing and delivering programming in the makerspace in coordination with the Makerspace staff, outside vendors, and other Library programming staff; monitoring library trends and needs; and preparing and evaluating statistical and other reports.

Requirements:
BA/BS in related field or equivalent combination of relevant experience and formal education or training;

Two years of supervisory experience preferred;
Experience with using and teaching others to use a variety of maker equipment and skills

Responsibilities for this position include: welcoming patrons to the library, issuing library cards, checking in and checking out materials, resolving patron account issues, emptying library materials from bins, and other materials handling.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Physical agility and strength to unload and load materials from bins and carts required. Be proficient with or ability to learn computers, software, and other office equipment. Ability to travel between library sites needed. Must be able to clear a background check.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Youth Services Library Associate (Part-Time)

Job Title:   Youth Services Library Associate
FT/PT:   Part-time, non-exempt
Hours:   25 hours/week, includes days, evenings and weekends
Wages:   Starts at $17.00–$20.80/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

The Algonquin Area Public Library District seeks a friendly, energetic, and engaging person to join our Youth Services team. The person in this position will work with the Youth Services staff to provide storytimes; reader guidance and homework help for children and caregivers within his/her scope of knowledge; manage early childhood, technology, display, and programming projects in Youth Services Department as assigned; assist patrons with self-checkout as necessary; and help children and caregivers with computers and equipment within his or her scope of knowledge.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Desire and ability to deliver early childhood programming to babies, toddlers, and their caregivers under the leadership of a librarian; desire and ability to serve the public with friendliness, tact, and diplomacy; solid knowledge of personal computers, the internet, and children's books, music, movies, and games; willingness and ability to learn emerging technologies and job related skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent customer service skills; previous experience working with children, babies through age 13; experience working in a public library and/or providing storytimes, a plus.

Education: BA/BS from an accredited college or equivalent combination of formal education and practical experience
