Job Title: Library Associate (Makerspace)
FT/PT: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Hours: 20-25 hours/week (evenings and weekends)
Wages: Starts at $18.80/hour - depending on qualifications and experience

Description:

The Algonquin Library is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and tech savvy crafter to join our team of maker and technology oriented staff in the Makerspace.

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Cultivating an atmosphere conducive to learning, creating, and exploring
  • Preparing and instructing classes on a variety of technology and maker topics
  • Assisting patrons with Makerspace equipment and software including Silhouette, Cricut, embroidery and sewing machines, 3D printers, X-Carve, and Laser Cutter
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting equipment
  • Preparing promotional material for the library’s newsletter, website, and social media

The ideal candidate will show interest in tinkering and crafting with an eagerness to learn new skills, provide exceptional customer service, collaborate well with the team, exhibit flexibility and adaptability in new situations, and be organized and reliable.

Requirements:

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in teaching or applied technology, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education;
  • Demonstrated interest and skill in crafting, tinkering, and the maker movement;
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with the public in a teaching or support capacity;
  • Library experience preferred
  • Sewing knowledge preferred

Library Website and Online UX Technician

Job Title: Library Technician (Computer Services)
FT/PT: Part-time, hourly, non- exempt
Hours: 25 hours/week
Wages: Starts at 21.95-24.00/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Description:

The Algonquin Area Public Library District seeks a friendly, engaging, and tech savvy individual with problem solving skills to join our growing team of computer and technology oriented staff. The person in this position will be in charge of overseeing the Library's websites and other online presences, as well as working with Library staff to prepare content for online publication.

The ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving skills and be able to demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking; have existing experience using hosted WordPress as a content management system; understand the changing roles of libraries in their communities; demonstrate sound judgment when managing difficult situations; work with other staff members to promote the Library; and be able to work independently.

Responsibilities of this position include: managing, updating, and making recommendations for the Library's websites, online catalog, and mobile apps; working with the Library's marketing and PR team to provide updates to the Library's online presences; assisting Library staff with preparation and layout of content for online distribution; and tracking and reporting various online usage statistics for Library reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education
  • Demonstrated experience working with online content management systems and analytic systems
  • Library or other non-profit or government experience preferred
