Responsibilities for this position include: welcoming patrons to the library, issuing library cards, checking in and checking out materials, resolving patron account issues, emptying library materials from bins, and other materials handling.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical agility and strength to unload and load materials from bins and carts
  • Proficiency with or ability to learn computers, software, and other office equipment
  • Ability to travel between library sites
  • Successful clearance of a background check

The Algonquin Area Public Library seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, physically fit, and detail oriented person to fill our entry level page position. If you enjoy putting books, music, movies, and other items in alphabetical or numerical order, searching for requested or lost items, performing detail-oriented work, and making a difference in the community, then join our team and help to keep our beautiful libraries in perfect running order!

Excellent patron experience is a top priority at the Algonquin Area Public Library and persons in this position help to deliver that experience. Responsibilities for this position include: shelving materials, searching for items in the collection, tidying and straightening, and performing a multitude of other tasks to support the running of both library locations.

Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully demonstrate skill in placing library materials in alphabetical and numerical order
  • Physically able to move carts of materials; stoop, reach, sort, carry, and shelve library materials; and set up tables, chairs, and other items in the Library Meeting Rooms
  • Ability to travel between library sites
  • Successful clearance of a background check

Library Assistant (Building & Grounds)

Job Title: Building & Grounds Assistant
FT/PT: Part-time, hourly, non- exempt
Hours: 10-18 hours/week (evenings and weekends)
Wages: Starts at $15.00-16.50/hour - depending on qualifications and experience

We are seeking conscientious and reliable persons to fill 2 evening and weekend positions on our Building and Grounds Maintenance Team. The ideal candidate will enjoy contributing to the upkeep and order of our well-maintained facilities; be team oriented but able to work independently; demonstrate initiative, problem solving skills, and good judgment when managing unusual situations; and take pride in keeping the Library buildings and grounds looking their best and operating efficiently.

Responsibilities of this position include: timely and accurate meeting room set ups and study room cleaning; light custodial duties to maintain an inviting environment including regularly wiping down high touch surfaces; cleaning and supplying staff and public bathrooms, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, and dusting; providing support for public events such as moving and setting up tables, tents, and other equipment; and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and set up meeting room furniture and other equipment;
  • Ability to follow written and spoken directions in English;
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn building and/or grounds maintenance procedures;
  • Experience working or volunteering in a support capacity, preferably in a similar position, preferred;
  • Reliable transportation
