Harnish Study Rooms Open

study room B in use

On Monday, March 5, Harnish Main Library staff were happy to say "Yes, we have that" when asked about study rooms. Three out of four study rooms in the Adult Services are now in use; two out of three study rooms in Youth Services are also open for public use. The remaining study room are currently still under construction and should be available as Phase 2 of the project moves forward.

We've updated our Study Room Policy to keep current with the addition of these much-anticipated resources. Click here to view the current policy or review these frequently asked questions (FAQs):

Is an AAPLD card required to use a study room?

No. All study rooms can be reserved and used by the general public. They are not limited to AAPLD cardholders.

How many study rooms are now available at the Harnish Main Library?

There will be four study rooms in Adult Services for use by patrons ages 14 and older. Currently, there are three study rooms, as one is still under construction.

There will be three study rooms in Youth Services. Currently, there are two study rooms available. These study rooms may be used by adults with a child or children 13 years and younger or by a child or children 10-13 years on their own. Tutors tutoring children will use the study rooms in Youth Services.

How are the study rooms identified?

Adult study rooms are labeled “A”, “B”, “C”, with “A” being the room next to the Quiet Reading Room and “C” being the room closest to the Administration offices. Youth study rooms are labeled “1,” “2,” and “3."

How do I make a reservation?

You are allowed to use study rooms for two (2) hours a day, whether booking the study room for use as an individual or a group. You may use the room longer if there are no reservations immediately after or until the next reservation is made.

If the study rooms in Adult Services are all booked, can adults use the study rooms in Youth Services if they are available?

No. Adults can only use the upstairs study rooms.

How do I use a room I've reserved?

Study room doors remain locked at all times. When you come in to use a study room, you must stop at the service desks on the floor where you've reserved the study room. Staff will walk you to your reserved room, open the door, and post a card marked with the time when your reservation expires. You need to return this card when you are done with the study room.

If you leave the room at any time during your reservation, staff will have to let you back in because the door will lock behind you.

How do I end my reservation?

Please stop by the service desk to return the laminated card and let staff know when you are done with the room.
