What’s a Makerspace?

Have you seen that new space that we have in our library, and ever wondered to yourself: “what is a makerspace?”.

A makerspace is a collaborative place that encourages exploration, creativity, design, and building, using a variety of media, tools, technology, and objects. It grants you access to a variety of equipment, knowledge, and, of course, support from helpful staff. Build your dream project, collaborate on jobs with others, learn how to make something new, and work with some amazing tools that you might not find anywhere else. All skill levels welcome!

A makerspace is, simply, the place to make things! You’ve got the project, and we’ve got the space for you to get it done. Pop in during our open hours to work independently, or if you need some extra assistance with equipment that we use, please schedule a one-on-one appointment with a Maker Expert. All questions can be sent directly to makerspace@aapld.org.

Examples of tools that you can use:

  • Silhouette Cameo
  • 3D Printer
  • Dremel Digilab LC40 laser
  • Cricut
  • CNC mill machine

Our makerspace is located on the main floor at our Harnish location. Please read the full Makerspace Policy.
