National Library Week takes place Sunday, April 19 through Saturday, April 25, and this year’s theme is Find Your Joy.
At the Algonquin Area Public Library District, it is always our goal to help you discover a little joy each time you walk through our doors.
Yard Signs
During National Library Week, we invite you to celebrate with us in a simple and visible way, by displaying a Find Your Joy at AAPLD yard sign.
Brand new yard signs will be available starting Monday, April 13 at both library locations, while supplies last. These signs are free and can be picked up at the checkout desks. Take one home or display it at your business to share your support for the library and help spread a little joy throughout the community.
If you put up a sign, we would love to see it. Snap a photo and share it on social media or email it to social@aapld.org.
A Little Kiss Can Bring a Moment of Joy
When you visit either library location during National Library Week, be sure to stop by a service desk to pick up a small treat, a Hershey’s Kiss, as a sweet reminder to find joy in the little things, and drop a note in the box about something that brings you joy at AAPLD.
Newsletter Joy
While you are here, don’t forget to grab a copy of our April to May program guide (you may also read it online, just click the cover pictured here). This edition includes interactive activities for all ages. Create your own AAPLD acrostic poem on the inside page or try to find all the items featured on the cover for a little extra fun.
National Library Week Author Panel – April 23
A coalition of McHenry County public libraries is pleased to host a fantastic group of five fiction authors on Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at McHenry County College’s Luecht Auditorium. Christina Clancy, Sonali Dev, Nancy Johnson, Sara Maurer, and Rachel Swearingen will be on stage together to discuss their craft and the books they’ve written. Copies of their books will be available for purchase and signing at the event courtesy of Read Between the Lynes bookstore of Woodstock. Registration is required for this free author event.
This program is part of the McHenry County Libraries United – Let’s All Read Together community reading initiative, encouraging county residents to come together in a shared reading experience. The event is sponsored by Algonquin Area Public Library, Cary Area Public Library, Crystal Lake Public Library, Harvard-Diggins Library, Huntley Area Public Library, Johnsburg Library, Marengo-Union Library, McHenry Public Library, Nippersink Public Library, River East Library, and Woodstock Public Library.
