National Blood Donor Month

January is National Blood Donor Month! AAPLD will be hosting our own community blood drive on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023 from 3-7 PM at the Harnish Main Library in partnership with Versiti Blood Center of Illinois.

While you may not always feel it, donating blood makes you a LIFE SAVER! In fact, more than 4.5 million patients would die each year without lifesaving blood transfusions in the U.S. and Canada. Every day, the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois needs to see at least 600 donors to meet the demands of our local hospitals. Simple inconveniences like poor winter weather as well as other factors such as America’s general distrust in our current healthcare system have made it more challenging than ever to find people willing to donate.

A simple donation can be life-changing for someone in our community. We encourage you to step up and donate at our upcoming community blood drive for National Blood Donor Month. Appointments are appreciated, but not necessary. Walk-ins are welcome!

Donors this month will receive a FREE beanie while supplies last.

Anyone in good health, at least 16 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate blood every 56
days, or every two months. 16-year-olds must provide parental permission to donate. There is no
upper age limit. For general information about eligibility and more, click here.
