AAPLD and Fox River Valley, Stronger Together for Our Community

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing how AAPLD and our neighboring library, Fox River Valley, are working more closely together to make things easier and more convenient for our communities. Today, we’re excited to share what that partnership really means for you.

This year, we are both celebrating milestone anniversaries. Our friends at the Fox River Valley Public Library District are marking an incredible 150 years of service, while our own Eastgate Branch of the Algonquin Area Public Library District celebrates 50 years. These milestones are a testament not only to the dedicated staff and leadership who have shaped both libraries over the years, but also to the strong communities that continue to support, use, and believe in their libraries.

Our partnership and friendship are about removing barriers, expanding access, and making the library experience simpler and stronger for everyone in our area. Two libraries. One shared commitment to serving you better.

One Stop. Your Home Library Card.
You can now register for your designated home library card at either an AAPLD or Fox River Valley location. Stop in, and our staff will connect you to the correct library district quickly and easily. From there, you can enjoy services at both libraries (four locations!), as well as access to many other Illinois public libraries.

Programs at both libraries.
See a program you love at either library? Attend it. Many programs are open to area residents without restrictions tied to holding a specific library card from just one library district. Of course, there are some exceptions, but we want you to enjoy the full range of opportunities available in our shared community.

Your Illinois library card goes far.
Remember, your Illinois public library card should work at any public library in Illinois, though some restrictions may apply. Libraries across the state cooperate to ensure you have broad access to resources wherever you live, work, or travel.

Borrow from either library.
Patrons may borrow most physical materials from either library district. There are some exceptions, such as digital content, which remains specific to each library’s digital collection and licensing agreements. If you can’t find an item at your home library, there are always alternatives; just ask a staff member.

Service you can count on.
No matter which building you walk into, you can expect knowledgeable staff, friendly faces, and the kind of customer service that makes you feel welcome and supported.

Libraries are for everyone. No matter which side of a district border you call home, we are here to connect you with resources, opportunities, and welcoming spaces that support your life, your learning, and our shared community.
