Salary: Salary starts at $27.98-$30/hour ($54,561-$58,500 annually), depending on qualifications, experience and internal compensation equity.

We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic Youth Services Librarian to join our excellent and busy team of Youth Services librarians, specialists, and associates. If you delight in sharing stories, songs, and fun, and have a captivating gift for creating imaginative and educational programming for children from birth through 8th grade, this is the place for you!

Responsibilities

The person in this position will work with the Youth Services team to:

  • Create and present entertaining and educational storytimes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers;
  • Develop and manage collections for children that meet the needs of the community;
  • Create engaging programming for a diverse community of families and children from birth through 8th grade;
  • Ignite a love of reading, exploration, and learning; educate and support parents, caregivers, teachers, and children with reference, reader’s advisory, and technology assistance.

Hours & Scheduling

Scheduling includes daytime, evening, and weekend shifts. Must be flexible for scheduling to support programs and events and serve at public service points in the library and in the community.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from ALA-Accredited institution
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Collection development experience required, with extensive knowledge of books, authors, popular culture and media for children;
    • Experience in creating and performing engaging and diverse storytimes and programming for families and children;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
    • Experience assisting children and adults with library resources;
    • Excellent customer service skills; and enjoyment of working with children, parents, and caregivers.
