Interlibrary Loan

If materials from our collection do not satisfy a request, the library will attempt to obtain materials or photocopied items from other libraries. Card holders may have a total of thirty (30) pending Holds/Interlibrary loan requests at any one time.

In the event that interlibrary loan material can only be obtained from an organization that charges for interlibrary loan material, these charges will be passed on to the library user who originated the request. Library users who make these requests will be notified of the cost before the actual interlibrary loan request is completed.

Interlibrary loan period due dates are set by the lending library. Fines for interlibrary loan items are charged at the same rate as local materials. Interlibrary loan material from Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) Libraries may be renewed over the telephone.

The following libraries are included:

Cary Area Public Library
Crystal Lake Public Library
Des Plaines Public Library
Dundee Public Library
Evanston Public Library
Fremont Public Library
Glencoe Public Library
Huntley Area Public Library
Lake Forest Public Library
Lake Villa Public Library

McHenry Public Library
Niles Public Library
Northbrook Public Library
Park Ridge Public Library

Interlibrary loan items from all other libraries may not be renewed over the telephone or via the Internet. The renewal of these items requires that library staff contact the lending library to request an extension.

The Algonquin Area Public Library shall make available for interlibrary loan all materials that are circulated to in-person library users. Items from developing collections or newly acquired materials may not be available for interlibrary loan
