Freedom of Information Act

The Algonquin Area Public Library District (the "Library") permits access to as well as inspection and copying of public records in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, hereinafter referred to as the "Act" or "FOIA" (5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.). The Board of Trustees has established Policy 4030 in accordance with the Act.

FOIA Request Form

The Library provides the online FOIA request form below to make the entire process more efficient. However, if desired, interested parties may access and print a paper FOIA Request Form, which appears within Library Policy 4030.
Freedom of Information Act Request
It is a violation of the Freedom of Information Act for a person to knowingly obtain a public record for a commercial purpose without disclosing that it is for a commercial purpose, if requested to do so by the public body. 5 ILCS 140.3.1(c).
The Library will attempt to provide the requested documents in the specified format assuming they are currently stored in the requested format or are easily converted.
If you are requesting that the public body waive any fees for copying the documents, you must include a statement of the purpose of the request, and whether the principal purpose of the request is to access or disseminate information regarding the health, safety, and welfare or legal rights of the general public. 5 ILCS 140/6(c).
